CPL Recreation takes a regional approach to recreation delivery. An approach that isn't defined by municipal boundaries or postal codes, instead, it's about creating accessible sport, culture and recreation experiences!

We recently received feedback from Courtney Domoney of the Lifesaving Society on how the SPRA Community Diversity Inclusion Grant helped develop New Canadian WaterSmart^® Presentation materials that helped educate newcomers to Canada about water safety. 

The Ehrlo Sport Venture Program (Sport Venture) is a community outreach program in Regina that aims to provide inner-city youth, New Canadians and families with control of, and access to, recreation programs.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Awards programme was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1956 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Since its creation, the programme has undergone several reforms before attaining its current structure. It was initially designed for boys between the ages of 15 and 18 years old. In 1958, a similar scheme was introduced specifically for girls. In 1969, the girls and boys programmes were unified.

Canada adopted the programme in 1963, but the year the programme started in the various provinces differ. The programme was established in Saskatchewan in 1983.

Currently, more than 1330 young people in Saskatchewan are engaged in the Award programme. In 2012, 2013, and 2014, a total of 216, 199, and 119 young people were first introduced to it respectively.

Twice a year, the SaskOutdoors $upport Program offers funding to groups and classes around Saskatchewan for outdoor education experiences and environmental action projects. In 2014, one of these projects was the Sakewew Permaculture & Treaty Education Program organized by Sakewew High School and Nature Saskatchewan. 

You don’t have to wait till Spring to get outside. SaskOutdoors (Saskatchewan Outdoor and Environmental Education Association) has events and programs to help you embrace the outdoors during all seasons.

Saskatchewan Physical Education Association Inc. (SPEA) is one of 32 Provincial Recreation Associations supported by the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation.  These organizations are instrumental in delivering quality recreation experiences across the province.

We asked Holly Stevens, Executive Director of SPEA to tell us a little more about the valuable work they do.
