2023 Saskatchewan Communities in Bloom Provincial Results Announced

October 25, 2023 - The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is pleased to announce the winners of Saskatchewan’s Communities in Bloom program in 2023 and recognize all 33 of the provincial participants after a successful year. Participants enhanced their communities and were evaluated by the following criteria: Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant & Floral Displays. Participants are recognized with a Bloom Rating, and through the program’s Special Recognition Awards and Photo Contest.

Communities in Bloom Provincial Winners:
Three Provincial Winners excelled in all six criteria:

Population Category 501 – 1,000
Eastend, SK
4 Blooms
Special Mention for Tree Management and Natural Tree Nursery

Population Category 2,001 – 3,000
Moosomin, SK
4 Blooms
Special Mention for Community/Business Support and Volunteers

Population Category 1,001 – 2,000
Shellbrook, SK
3 Blooms
Special Mention for Tree Planting Partnership Project at the Golf Course

Special Recognition Award Recipients:

  • Coronach (Community Appearance) – Old Coronach Street Festival Museum Murals
  • Coronach (Volunteer Recognition) – Old Coronach Street Festival Committee
  • Craik (Heritage Recognition) – Communities in Bloom Peace Pole Project
  • Eastend (Environmental Action) – Southwest Waste Management Authority Regional Landfill
  • Moosomin (Volunteer Recognition) – McNaughton High School’s Environmental Science Class
  • Moosomin (Floral Displays) – Floral Displays in Moosomin & District Regional Park
  • Saskatchewan Beach (Community Spirit) – For Communities in Bloom Activities and Excitement of Residents

“Take a Shot!” Photo Contest Winners:

  • 1st Place – Rosa B. Vázquez, Eastend, Saskatchewan
  • 2nd Place – Gwen Eyre, Craik, Saskatchewan
  • 3rd Place – Town of Coronach (co-credit: Canadian James Photography), Coronach, Saskatchewan

We also want to acknowledge the communities of Wolseley, Kinistino and Melfort, who represented Saskatchewan in the 2023 National Communities in Bloom competition. Their achievements were recognized at the 2023 CiB National Symposium on Parks and Grounds & National & International Awards Ceremonies on September 30 in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, AB.

  • Kinistino – Special recognition for Recycled Tire Material – Playground and Walkway Surfaces, Winner of the Teck Community Appearance Award, 5 Bloom – Bronze Rating
  • Wolseley – Special recognition for Heritage Conservation, 5 Bloom – Bronze Rating
  • Melfort – Participant in the Circle of Excellence, non-evaluated
