Presenter: Darla Fortune, Assistant Professor, Concordia University
Belonging is a basic human need that enhances our well-being; however, not all people experience belonging. Social constraints such as stigma, health issues, economic restrictions, and language barriers frequently contribute to the erosion of belonging. As TR practitioners, we know that leisure spaces and practices can have a tremendous impact on an individual’s sense of belonging.
In this webinar, Darla Fortune describes belonging and its role in personal/community well-being and provide research-based examples of leisure sparking a sense of belonging for individuals most at risk of exclusion. She will conclude the webinar by discussing implications for TR practice and advocate for an enhanced role for TR practitioners to consider belonging and inclusion within their practice.
