This is a difficult time for everyone. As much as we would all like to be at work and contributing to the wellness of our people and communities, we know this isn’t the current reality.

Recreation practitioners, parks and arena operators, fitness leaders, students and so many more have been impacted by this pandemic. We see you. 

We want to take this opportunity to share details on the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), and help you to identify if you are eligible to access this relief funding.  

Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

If you have stopped, or will stop, working for reasons related to COVID-19 between March 15 and September 26, 2020, you can access the CERB, which provides qualified individuals $2,000 a month, for up to four months. 

Eligibility Criteria:
The benefit is available to workers who:
•    are or expect to be without any employment or self-employment income;
•    reside in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number (including temporary foreign workers and international students);
•    are at least 15 years old;
•    have stopped working because of COVID-19; and
•    had income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of their application.

•    Option 2: Over the phone – 1-800-959-8284
•    Due to the high number of applications, the Government of Canada has requested that you make your application on your dedicated login day, as outlined below:

  • If you have signed up for direct deposit, you should receive your payment within 3 business days. Cheques will take about 10 business days to arrive.

  • For each four-week period that you are out of work, you will be required to re-apply for CERB support.
