On March 19, 2025, the Saskatchewan provincial government tabled the budget for 2025-26.
demonstrates a growing commitment towards enhancing parks and recreation throughout our province.
The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association values the increased investments being made to rinks, playgrounds and Saskatchewan’s Regional Parks. We continue to be a trusted government partner and are excited to be delivering both the Community Rink Affordability Grant (CRAG) and the new School Playground Equipment Grant in 2025-26.
Key Budget highlights relevant to the parks and recreation industry include:
- A new program to fund school playgrounds will launch with $4 million annually. It is expected that up to 75 projects will be eligible to receive up to $50,000 in matched funding each year. It is anticipated that program intake will open in the fall 2025.
- The Community Rink Affordability Grant, which helps communities buy equipment and pay operational costs, will increase from $2,500 to $5,000 per ice surface this upcoming winter. Approximately 581 grants are provided to communities each year.
- $1 million will be provided to the Saskatchewan Regional Parks Association to build new seasonal campsites.
- Doubling the Active Families Benefit refundable tax credit and raising the income threshold to qualify for it to $120,000 to make children’s sports, arts, cultural and recreation activities more affordable for more Saskatchewan families.
- $12.5 million investment for capital projects and infrastructure upgrades for provincial parks across Saskatchewan.
- $1.5 million for the Saskatchewan Veteran’s Service Club Support Program.
