DIRECTOR OF RECREATION AND PARKS


The Town of Tisdale is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Recreation & Parks. Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Recreation and Parks is responsible for our community’s recreational facilities, programs, and partnerships. This leadership role manages various town assets, organizes programs, and ensures high-quality recreational opportunities for residents.


General Accountability and Purpose:

The Director of Recreation & Parks

  • Is the manager of the Recreation and Parks Department of the Town of Tisdale;
  • With guidance from the CAO, ensures that the policies and programs of the municipality are implemented; and
  • Performs the duties and functions and exercises the powers assigned to a Chief Administrative Officer by this and other enactments.


Key Responsibilities:
The foregoing description reflects the general duties necessary to describe the principal functions of the job identified. It shall not be construed as all of the work requirements inherent in this classification.

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of facilities, including the RECplex, Aquatic Centre, ball diamonds, parks, playgrounds, cemetery, trails, and more.
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring efficient rate setting and project follow-through.
  • Organize and schedule ice, dressing rooms, and ball programs.
  • Manage financial tracking, coding invoices, reviewing time cards, and facility maintenance.
  • Prepare for and participate in board and committee meetings, including budget and partnership meetings.
  • Hire and oversee seasonal staff, including advertising positions, training, and scheduling.
  • Lead grant research, application, and reporting efforts.
  • Coordinate significant facility events such as rodeos, tournaments, and cultural events.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, lessees, and partners.
  • Manage Sask Lotteries Grant allocations and community appreciation events.
  • Oversee project tenders, maintenance, and contractor arrangements.
  • Responsible for the long-term recreation facility planning.
  • Responsible for making authorized purchases, implementing programs, budgeting, correspondence, and arranging for or handling regular maintenance of facilities to ensure a high level of service.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and municipal regulations and policies in all programs and facilities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A background in recreation management, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in budgeting, grant writing, and facility management.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with various stakeholders, including community groups and government agencies.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with municipal recreation operations is an asset.
