Position Overview:
The City of Prince Albert is accepting applications for a number of permanent full time Lifeguard positions.
The Permanent Lifeguard is responsible for supervision and leadership of casual lifeguards and is responsible for the overall Aquatics Facility when assigned. Permanent Lifeguards are also responsible for instructing and overseeing classes, lesson planning, arranging for student examinations and examining classes.
Shifts may include day, evenings and weekends.
The starting salary for this position is $46,440 per year. The City also offers a Group Benefit plan and Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Key Lifeguarding and Supervision Duties
- Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard I, Lifeguard II, and Lifeguard III
- Responsible for the leadership and supervision of Lifeguard I, II, and III positions
- Completes lifeguard and instructor evaluations and provides guidance and training when required.
- Supervises the activities of patrons using the facility in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provides an instructional and/or leadership role for programs scheduled.
- Responds to inquiries and/or resolves complaints from the general public, staff, consultants, and community groups with regards to aquatic facility operations, programming, and maintenance.
- Schedule lifeguard rotations as required, determine the number of lifeguards required on deck and complete shift reports.
- In cases of emergency, reacts and responds according to policies and procedures. This may include but is not limited to: providing first aid, water rescues, and completing required documentation.
- Uses judgement when required to restrict the use or close the facility when dangerous conditions exist.
2. Key Operational Duties
- Responsible for performing facility opening and closing procedures and training casual staff these procedures.
- Conducts and records water samples.
- Participates in cleaning and disinfection.
- Ensures rules and regulations are followed as set out in the Saskatchewan Swimming Pool Regulations, Provincial Occupational Health and Safety, and by the City of Prince Albert.
- Follows and adheres to the City of Prince Albert Aquatic Manual.
3. General Duties
- Assists and participate in ongoing staff in-service training and development programs.
- Practices and maintains lifesaving and aquatic fitness skills.
- Maintains good public relations with patrons and facility staff.
- Responsible for performing lifeguarding roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Aquatic Manual.
- Invoice, collect, account for, and deposit cash receipts.
- Follow acts, regulations, bylaws, agreements, policies and procedures.
- Follow regulations, acts and policies of Occupational Health and Safety.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- 18 years of age
- Two years related work experience or supervisory experience
- Successfully completes annual respirator fit testing
- Possession of the following or equivalent:
- Aquatic Supervisor Training
- Certified Pool Operator Training
- CPR-HCP or BLS (valid within one year)
- Lifesaving Instructor and Swim for Life Instructor
- Lifesaving Sport – Coach Level 1
- Naloxone Training
- National Lifeguard – Pool
- National Lifeguard – Waterpark
- Respect in Sport
- SEE Auditor
- Standard First Aid
- Swim Abilities
- WHMIS
- The following would be considered an asset:
- Bronze Examiner
- Bronze Mentor
- Lifesaving First Aid Instructor and Examiner
