SPRA Fitness Leadership Certification gives Fitness Leaders national recognition through the National Fitness Leadership Alliance (NFLA) and the qualifications and recognition to instruct across Canada.

Time: 24 Hours
Prerequisite: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
Exercise Theory is a prerequisite to all specialty exercise modules.
There are three ways Exercise Theory can be completed:
Complete Exercise Theory with an SPRA Course Conductor, and write the NFLA Exercise Theory Exam
Complete the Home Study Program, then write the NFLA Exercise Theory Exam
Challenge the NFLA Exercise Theory Exam
In order to complete Exercise Theory you must pass the NFLA Exercise Theory Exam with a grade of 80% or higher.
Within 6 months of passing the NFLA Exercise Theory Exam, you must choose a certification from one of three modules:
All applicants must provide proof of CPR/First Aid Training.
CPR/First Aid Certificates must be current:
CPR (minimum Level A) and First Aid must be current and within two years from date of issue.
Once you have completed all the previous steps, you must send the following to SPRA:
Payment of the Certification Fee ($85 in 2020)
Proof of CPR/First Aid Certificate - SPRA policy for CPR/FA is that it must be current and within two years of the certificate's issue date. Blended learning is acceptable for certification and renewals, if the service provider offers this option. Blended learning is a combination of in-class and online instruction. The theory information is shared through an online component, and the in-class teaching focuses on skills and applied theory.
Copy of Practical Evaluation and Lesson Plan
To renew Certification as an SPRA Fitness Leader, you must provide:
Proof of 12 Continuing Education Credits every two years
Proof of 20 practical teaching hours every year
Annual Certification Fee payable to SPRA
CPR/FA certificates must be current and within 2 years from date of issue
